BRISBANE Lions midfielder Jack Redden, who plays his 50th match this weekend against Adelaide, says he wants be a leader of the club.

Since making his debut in an upset win over Geelong in round 15, 2009, Redden has not missed a single match and has steadily built his reputation on and off the field.

With Tom Rockliff, Daniel Rich and ruckman Matthew Leuenberger, he is seen as a key ingredient for the Lions to turn around their miserable 2010-2011 form in the future.

The 20-year-old is averaging 24 disposals a match this season and is second in the league in tackles with 134, six behind West Coast's Scott Selwood.

His flatmate Rockliff, 21, was elevated to the Lions' leadership group at the start of this season, and Redden said it was something he was eyeing off in the future.

"It's probably something I haven't thought about at this stage but down the track it'd be good to be a leader of the football club," he said.

"I think it's heading in the right direction and it'd be a good achievement."

Redden was snapped up from Glenelg by the Lions with the 25th pick of the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

He said he loved Brisbane and could see plenty of potential at the club despite the difficult season.

"The group at the moment is a great young group; the potential's there," he said.

"This year we've got some games into the younger players and hopefully we can move forward and finish off the season strong and then focus on 2012.

"We're going to have to push each other and drive each other. We're going through a rough stage at the moment but hopefully down the track we can be a grand final contender."

Redden said he was proud to be playing his 50th game after not expecting to make an AFL list as a youngster.

He said the Lions had learnt a lot from their 40-point win over Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in round 10.

"Adelaide played well last week. New coach, I'm sure they're firing and we're going to have to be on our game to beat them," he said.

"They like to flick the ball on with hands and run, they are a good work-rate team and spread hard. If we can close them out early and limit that, I think we're a good chance.

"We've got a few areas we're focusing on and if we bring our A-game with contested ball and spread well, I think we can win it."
