DESPITE being under an injury cloud this week, Geelong defender Mark Blicavs has been named to take his place against Sydney in Thursday night's crucial clash at the SCG.

Blicavs, who is likely to be given the task of stopping Swans superstar Lance Franklin, was in doubt in the lead-up to the match after being in a moon boot during the week because of a toe complaint.

The key defender, along with the returning Scott Selwood, will have important roles against the Swans, with the midfielder a chance to go to star Swan Luke Parker.

Selwood is set for his first game since round seven because of a back issue.

Sydney veteran Jarrad McVeigh will start on the bench for the home side in a surprising move, as will Geelong superstar Gary Ablett.

The Swans will be without Isaac Heeney (concussion), Gary Rohan (hamstring) and James Rose (shoulder), but their inclusions Dean Towers, Dan Robinson and Robbie Fox are fresh after being held out of the NEAFL last weekend.
