PORT Adelaide will be "bolder" in how it plays in 2019, newly-promoted senior assistant coach Michael Voss says.

The Power's first-to-fourth-year players returned to training on Monday morning with a session at Alberton Oval.

Playing at an up-tempo pace and increasing scoring will be focal points of the pre-season after the Power were 13th in the League for points per game last season, averaging 75.2.

FULL FIXTURE Every round, every game

"We're clearly not happy where we are, so for us, looking at the way we play and how we score is one of those when you're coming off a year where we didn't score as well as we wanted to," Voss said.

"We will actively encourage being bolder in the way that we play.

"At the same time, there are other things we want to make sure we're getting done as well and not just starting to become one-way focused."

The Power were 11-4 after 15 rounds last season, but capitulated to lose six of their last seven games to miss the finals.

WHO MAKES FINALS? Do the 2019 Ladder Predictor

It's a different-looking side with the loss of star forward Chad Wingard and winger Jared Polec to Hawthorn and North Melbourne respectively.

The Power picked up West Coast premiership ruckman Scott Lycett in free agency along with adding Hawks defender Ryan Burton and Brisbane utility Sam Mayes.

They also have a strong hand in the draft with picks five, 10 and 15.

"We're not happy where we are, we finished out of the finals," Voss said.

"As a result of that, change will exist and sometimes that sits on a personnel level, and sometimes that sits on the way that we train, the way our coaches will actually be.

"We've got a new set of coaches.

"Roles have changed within that coaching group, so with that comes an element of freshness.

"The opportunity that has existed now is we've got early draft picks.

"We're going to have some young talent come into this group, some quite exciting talent from the look of the draft."

TOUGHEST DRAW? Champion Data ranks every club

Burton is yet to start training with the Power, the 21-year-old having a longer break having been a part of the Hawks' finals campaign.

Voss takes over the senior assistant coaching role after Matthew Nicks joined Greater Western Sydney.

The Power have added 2004 premiership players Brett Montgomery (forwards), Jarrad Schofield (midfield) and Dean Brogan (ruck) as assistant coaches.
