GREATER Western Sydney recruit Brett Deledio has taken another small step towards his long-awaited return from a recurring calf injury.

Deledio took part in a short skills session with the Giants' main group on Thursday morning, in his first run with the playing group since he initially hurt his right calf in early February.

The 30-year-old moved freely in a 15 to 20-minute session of short handball and longer kicking drills before splitting from the main group to complete some laps.

It's a positive sign for the former Tiger, who has suffered more than one setback since the first injury, and he remains on track to play some footy in the next month should he be able to get through another 2-3 weeks of training and gradually increase his intensity.

Fellow veteran Steve Johnson (knee) trained well and could be picked for the Giants' clash with Carlton on Sunday, the club's final game before the bye, but big man Rory Lobb (groin) was restricted to light work with the GWS strength and conditioning staff, and looks unlikely to face the Blues.

There's a sight for sore eyes! #NeverSurrender
