PORT Adelaide is adamant star utility Robbie Gray will play in the historic match against Gold Coast in Shanghai, despite him not being at 100 per cent.

Gray has been under an injury cloud after finishing Thursday's training session with strapping on his right calf.

On Saturday, during the Power's final hit-out before game day, Gray trained with his teammates and completed the short 40-minute session.

But the forward didn't look comfortable, and at times appeared proppy.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Michael Voss revealed to reporters that Gray wasn't 100 per cent fit, but insisted he would be right to face the Suns.

"He's just getting soreness in a few different spots so that's all it really is," Voss said after training.

"You might get a bit sore in one place and then it ends up in another. I think what he'll be looking forward to, is when this is all done and dusted, and he performs well tomorrow, he can get some rest and get some training under his belt and some continuity."

Earlier in the day, Gold Coast assistant coach Matthew Primus said the Suns expected Gray to play.

The Power have a bye in round nine to give the club time to recover from the trip to China.

Voss didn't rule out Gray potentially needing a rest following the scheduled week off but said it wasn't in the club's plan at this stage.

Gold Coast star Gary Ablett was the only player missing from their light training session earlier on Saturday.

Again, Primus said there is nothing wrong with Ablett, adding the midfield ace was having treatment at the team hotel.

"You just don't back him up the next day, like a good horse," Primus said.

Suns midfielder Aaron Hall had plenty of strapping on a leg and was put through extra work, but is also expected to play.
