The AFL Umpiring Department will host the State Umpiring Managers and State Umpiring Development Managers at the National Umpiring Workshop in Melbourne next Wednesday.

This workshop is held annually and is used to review the previous 12 months as well as develop strategies and initiatives for the next few years. The group has been busy speaking to stakeholders at community level to ensure strategies and initiatives line up with the needs of community umpiring.

The group will also discuss the impact of law changes on community football, as well as an update on AFL umpiring. The AFL Umpiring Department is focused on strong relationships with umpiring stakeholders at state and community levels of football and this workshop assists in driving that goal.

There will also be work put in to developing a revised 5-year strategy on the future direction of umpiring. Once finalised, this strategy will be shared with community umpiring stakeholders.

It has been a massive 12 months in umpiring development with the launch of a new logo, new recruitment campaign, new website, new coaching academy and strong inroads being made in the area of umpiring diversity. We look forward to sharing with you the future direction of community umpiring in due course.
