GEELONG has beaten Hawthorn in nine straight matches since the 2008 Grand Final, but veteran Paul Chapman says he would hand back all of them in return for a 2008 premiership medal.

"I still believe they've got the last laugh," Chapman told AFL.com.au.

"They're still laughing loudest. That '08 premiership means more than anything we've done since.

"But we just need to keep beating them. That's all we can do. And beating them is great fun."

In the wake of Geelong's 2008 Grand Final loss, Chapman famously said he didn't want to "ever let Hawthorn beat us again".

The Cats then beat the Hawks in round one, 2009, and they have won every clash since then, with the average winning margin just shy of nine points and the average attendance at the matches almost 70,000.

There have been many dramatic finishes during the past four seasons, and Chapman enjoys recounting Jimmy Bartel's point after the siren in round 17, 2009, along with the stunning final-quarter comeback in round two last year.

And outside of his three premiership wins, 'Chappy' has enjoyed few games more than the clash with the Hawks in round 19 last season which ended with Tom Hawkins kicking the winning goal after the siren.

"It has been amazing," Chapman said.

"It's developed into a huge rivalry, and it's great. Rivalries like that are what you play footy for.

"You just know that when you play Hawthorn there's going to be an extra hardness about the game. And you know that the stands are going to be full because people want to see it.

"The endings to the last few games against Hawthorn have been amazing. We've just got to keep winning, that's all."
