CLASSY utility Shaun Burgoyne will extend his AFL career into a 14th season after re-signing with Hawthorn for 2014.

 

Burgoyne, who turns 31 in October, was due to come out of contract at the end of this season but AFL.com.au understands he recently came to terms with the Hawks for next year.

 

Burgoyne has shown in 2013 he still has a valuable role to play at the top-of-the-table Hawks as they seek to add to their 2008 premiership.

 

Played everywhere from defence, midfield to attack, Burgoyne played the Hawks' first 15 games, averaging 19 possessions a game and kicking 14 goals.

 

Despite missing the past two games through suspension, Burgoyne still sits fifth at the Hawks for total disposals this season.

 

Burgoyne joined Hawthorn in the 2009 trade period after a stellar 157-game career at Port Adelaide that included the 2004 premiership and All Australian selection in 2006.

 

He has since played 79 games at Hawthorn for a total of 236.
