MELBOURNE'S Jack Watts says he needs to be confident the Demons are heading in the right direction before he re-commits to the club.
The 22-year-old told The Footy Show on Thursday night he would weigh up all the options available to him at the end of the season before re-committing to Melbourne.
"I have got a decision to make at the end of the year and I will weigh up all the options and hopefully come to the right decision," Watts said.
Watts' manager Paul Connors indicated a fortnight ago his client wanted to see who the Demons appointed as coach before he made his decision whether or not to stay at the club.
However Watts backed away from that comment and said the choice of coach would not be the sole factor influencing his decision.
He said he wanted Melbourne to be "moving forward and on the way up and winning some games".
The No.1 selection in the 2008 AFL National Draft has played in just 18 wins and two ties in his 70-game career with the Demons.
However he has not fulfilled the expectations heaped on him since he made his debut against Collingwood on the Queen's Birthday in 2009.
His name has been linked with Carlton, Fremantle and Greater Western Sydney but his value on the trade table is uncertain.
Watts made it clear former Melbourne coach Mark Neeld was not able to get the best out of him at the Demons. His form has improved under interim coach Neil Craig. He has kicked 12 goals in his eight games under Craig and been among the best players on the ground on a couple of occasions.
Melbourne has been chasing Paul Roos as coach and begun interviewing external candidates Rodney Eade and Mark Williams.
It also intends to appoint a football manager and has begun assembling a board with AFL assistance. The club is also planning to appoint a new president soon.
Watts said CEO Peter Jackson had given him great confidence since he began in the job in April.
"At the end of the year I will weigh everything up. There is no doubt I love the club and I love the boys," Watts said.
