COLLINGWOOD is confident Levi Greenwood has escaped serious injury after hurting his right ankle in the Magpies' loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Greenwood had scans on his ankle on Sunday and Collingwood announced on its official Twitter account that afternoon that "the early prognosis is positive".

A Magpies spokesman told AFL.com.au that the club would be able to make a more definitive assessment of Greenwood's injury after its medical staff had a chance to consider the scans on Monday.

Greenwood hurt his ankle when it became trapped underneath Jarrad Grant as he tackled the Bulldogs forward in the third quarter of the Pies' 61-point loss.

Greenwood was unable to put weight on his right leg as he limped off the ground and did not play any further part in the match.

After the game Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said the former Kangaroo was "likely to miss weeks".

"We just don't know how many," Buckley said.
