COLLINGWOOD recruit Taylor Adams knows his deficiencies and is drawing on help from some of the best in the game to rectify them.

The 20-year-old played two seasons with GWS and earned himself a reputation as a tough-nut inside midfielder, before heading to the Magpies in a trade that involved Heath Shaw.

In 31 games, he averaged more than 20 disposals in a midfield that was usually out-gunned for both size and experience.

The one thing that occasionally let Adams down, though, was his disposal.

Speaking at Dreamworld's White Water World on the Gold Coast as part of a Collingwood training camp, Adams said it was an area he'd been working hard on.

"I can find the ball all right, but sometimes I don't use it as well as I'd like," he said.

"I don't think you can ever be too good a kick. It's one of my areas of improvement and I've done a lot of work over the pre-season on that."

While praising the coaching staff during his two seasons at the Giants, Adams said it was a big help coming to a club with the likes of Scott Pendlebury and Luke Ball on the playing list.

He said the pair had helped "coach" him during his first four months at the club.

Adams has recovered from an illness that kept him out of the weekend's NAB Challenge loss against Richmond and is eager to play the Suns on Sunday at Metricon Stadium.

He said it was not only a chance to pit himself against a quality midfield, but also another opportunity to run out alongside his new teammates.

"It's different learning how your teammates play, but that's what pre-season is about. I think our game plan is a pretty simple one and it's been pretty simple to fit in," he said.

"They're (Gold Coast) two or three years into their AFL careers and they're matured bodies and I think will be a real challenge for our midfield. We'll be going out on Sunday for a win."
