ALEX Fasolo admits he was "scared" he had re-aggravated the navicular bone in his right foot on Anzac Day, an injury that wrecked almost his entire 2013 season.

Scans cleared Fasolo of any serious damage after he was substituted out of the game against Essendon, with the Magpie defender missing just two senior games with an inflamed foot.

"Anyone who has had navicular issues is a bit scared if they feel anything in their foot, so initially I thought that might be the case," Fasolo told AFL.com.au.

"But I was lucky enough to get some scans and it was just a bit of joint inflammation."

Returning to the side against West Coast on Saturday afternoon following a hit-out in the VFL last weekend, Fasolo will add some craftiness to the Magpies' defence.

Making the transition from the forward line into the backline remains a work in progress for Fasolo, but he is all for the move if it rounds out his game.

"It's an ongoing process. I'm not going to be the best half-back in the world overnight, but I'm getting better slowly," Fasolo said.

Recently signing a two-year contract extension, which will see him through until the end of the 2016 season, Fasolo also harbours midfield ambitions in the future.

"The modern-day footballer has to have plenty of strings to their bow. I can play up forward, I can play down back and hopefully I can push into the midfield and contribute in there," he said.

Fasolo also admitted he flirted with the idea of a move back to Western Australia during contract negotiations with the Pies.

"There's always a little carrot there, I suppose, to go home at some stage. But I love Melbourne and I love the football club," he said.
