COLLINGWOOD midfielder Luke Ball wants to play on next season.

Ball is out of contract at year's end and the club is still weighing up whether to extend his tenure at the Magpies into a sixth year.

The 30-year-old has battled a lingering calf issue this season, which has limited him to 16 games.

Ball said he felt increasingly confident his body could handle another season, and was planning to sit down with the club following Friday night's must-win clash with Hawthorn at the MCG.

"I've had a look at both scenarios in the last couple of weeks,  and I still feel like I've got enough competitive juice in the body to go again," Ball told Triple M radio on Tuesday night.

"But the club might decide that it's time to go another way."

Ball has played 222 career games after being selected by St Kilda with pick No. 2 in the 2001 NAB AFL Draft.

He was also part of Collingwood's 2010 drought-breaking premiership victory.
