CARLTON'S Chris Yarran and Adelaide midfielders Rory Sloane and Patrick Dangerfield, all of whom missed inclusion in the 40-man All Australian squad, are part of the 22-man team of the year selected using the Official AFL Player Ratings.

Gold Coast star Gary Ablett has been named captain because he finished the year at No.1 on the player ratings table.

Shaun Burgoyne: First for contested possessions and pressure acts for small-medium defenders.

Alex Rance: First for intercept possessions and second for preventing a mark when his opponent was targeted on a lead.

Chris Yarran: Second for running bounces. Was beaten one-on-one just once in 20 contests.

Nick Malceski: First for metres gained. Was beaten one-on-one just three times in 24 contests.

Harry Taylor: First at preventing his opponent from winning the ball when isolated one-on-one.

Brodie Smith: Second for metres gained and No.6 for total disposals by small-medium defenders.

Joel Selwood: Fifth for centre clearances, sixth for score involvements of midfielders, ninth for contested possessions and averaged one goal per game.

Nat Fyfe: Third for contested possessions, seventh for score involvements and eighth for goals per game of midfielders.

Rory Sloane: Was the only midfielder in the top 10 for tackles (sixth) and score assists (fifth).

Brent Harvey: Third for goals by midfielders and second for score assists.

Lance Franklin: Won the Coleman Medal and was second in the competition for pressure acts inside 50.

Robbie Gray: First for score assists by midfielders and second only to Gary Ablett in goals kicked by mids.

Luke Breust: Fifth in the competition for score assists. Had the best accuracy (73 per cent) of any player with 20 or more shots at goal.

Jarryd Roughead: Second in the competition for goals per game and second of key forwards for ground level possessions inside 50.

Eddie Betts: Second in the competition for score assists and fourth for goals kicked by small-medium forwards.

 

Sam Jacobs: First for hit-outs to advantage, first for score launches and second for disposals by ruckmen.

Gary Ablett (c): First for contested possessions per game. Kicked 24 goals and seven behinds.

Scott Pendlebury: Ranked eighth among midfielders for contested possessions per game.

Patrick Dangerfield: Second for intercept possessions of midfielders, eighth for clearances and fourth for contested possessions.

Tom Rockliff: Averaged 9.1 tackles – the highest ever recorded in a season. Also led the competition in total disposals.

Travis Boak: Third for handballs per game and 13th for contested possessions by midfielders.

Josh P. Kennedy: Second for contested possessions and fourth for score involvements of midfielders.
