Watts, who has one been of the more talked-about footballers since joining the Demons as the No.1 draft pick in 2009, says he can't thanks Roos enough for his support on and off the field.
"He's been pretty amazing since he's been here, for me personally," Watts said in a club video on Friday.
"The support they (Roos and the other coaches) give you, and the confidence ... in not only your footy but you as a person."
As a top draft pick, Watts has been heavily scrutinised throughout his career, so Roos' outspoken defence has been appreciated.
"We joke about it all the time, but he's been defending me ever since he's been here.
"I couldn't thank him enough."
The 23-year-old said while he can't control what people say, the best way to keep scrutiny at bay is to perform on the field.
"As we get better and better as a team ... and get that public recognition - a bit of respect - hopefully that'll help," he said.
Watts said the appointment of Roos at the end of 2013 swayed him to re-sign with Melbourne rather than seek a trade.
"I think last year probably I was at that point (considering leaving)," he said.
"With Roosy coming on board, and the mates I've got here ... I love it."I love playing here, I love everyone involved.
"From Roosy and everyone down to the property steward Anthony Brown.
"I'm certainly keen to spend my time here and build something."
