McKernan recently told AFL.com.au he was willing to play anywhere for a second chance at the elite level and claimed his best football was ahead of him.
On Tuesday night he said he would spend almost a month training with the Saints in the hope of finding a way onto their list at the draft on November 25.
"I've spoken to a few [clubs]. Next week I'll start training at St Kilda which has been good…they're going to give me a bit of a chance," McKernan said on Adelaide radio station 5AA.
"I'll be there for three weeks and wait and see what happens at the draft.
"[I'm] excited to get down there. They’ve got a pretty young group and got some good people on board so I'm looking forward to it."
McKernan is yet to speak directly with Saints coach Alan Richardson but said he was "keen to get in front of him".
St Kilda is hardly strapped for tall options, with four players above 200cm and two others above 195cm.
Measuring in at 196cm, McKernan told AFL.com.au he believed his best football came when splitting his time on the ground between the forward line and ruck.
He said his inconsistency was the main factor restricting him from cementing his place in the Crows’ line-up during his six seasons at West Lakes.
