IT'S VERY early days, but Gold Coast rookie Josh Glenn has already shown that waiting an extra year to be drafted might have been the right call.

Glenn has been with his new Suns teammates for just over a week, but has made an instant impact with both his physical testing and in match simulated training.

The 20-year-old declined an invite to the 2013 draft combine despite an excellent season for Central Districts.

Glenn said he wasn't mature enough.

After another excellent campaign in the SANFL, the 180cm midfielder thought his time was right, and was taken with pick No.7 in last week's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"I came into SANFL footy two years ago and thought the transition from amateur league to SANFL to AFL was a bit too much of a step," Glenn told AFL.com.au.

"It was a tough decision. It took months.

"I thought I was a bit immature the year before. I just had to pull my head in a bit.

"So I thought I'd give it another year at SANFL level, and I guess it worked."

Glenn ran the Suns' 2km time trial on Monday and excelled, finishing in the top five.

He was then involved in Wednesday's training session that included stoppage and match-simulated structures, shining with his pinpoint right-foot disposal.

One impressive 40m pass pulled back across his body to hit a moving target showcased his foot skills.

"It's been different from what I was doing in Adelaide," Glenn said of his first full week at Metricon Stadium.

"The running is more intense. Every drill is flat out. The weights are much different also. I wasn't doing many weights back in Adelaide, so it's tough.

"I feel pretty good about things, but it's a long season."
