THE WESTERN Bulldogs have cut even more experience from their youthful squad to face Melbourne in Saturday's NAB Challenge clash at Eureka Stadium in Ballarat, with Mitch Wallis and Liam Picken omitted from the side.

Boom recruit Tom Boyd has also been left out after making his debut against Richmond two weeks ago.

But new coach Luke Beveridge will get his first look at seven recruits – including Toby McLean, Lukas Webb, Declan Hamilton, Bailey Dale and the AFL's shortest player, 167cm dynamo Caleb Daniel.

Rookie draftees Jordan Kelly and Roarke Smith will also be unveiled. Smith and Hamilton have been named as subs in a side missing skipper Robert Murphy and vice-captain Jordan Roughead.

Melbourne will field a strong squad in its second NAB Challenge match after a fighting opening loss to Fremantle.

Cut from the squad are Billy Stretch, Cameron Pedersen and Jack Fitzpatrick.

Jack Watts will start as a sub in his first match for the pre-season, while Viv Michie will also don the green vest.

RICHMOND v PORT ADELAIDE
Lavington Sports Ground (Albury), 4.40pm AEDT, March 14

PORT ADELAIDE will enter Saturday's clash with Richmond in Albury with one fewer player than its opponent after defender Jarman Impey pulled out with hamstring soreness on Saturday morning.

Despite Impey's omission, the Power went ahead with plans to rest Ollie Wines, Matthew Lobbe and Tom Jonas to give some of their younger players more game time.

Rookie-listed defender Sam Russell will start as the Power's only substitute.

In comparison to the Power's inexperienced line-up, the Tigers have named a strong team for the clash at Lavington Sports Ground.

Brett Deledio, Ivan Maric, Dustin Martin and Jack Riewoldt will line up for their first games of the year after missing the Tigers' win over the Western Bulldogs two weeks ago.

Liam McBean and Todd Elton – who showed promising form as a key defender against Tom Boyd in the Dogs' game – will start as substitutes.

Shaun Hampson, Matt McDonough and Matt Arnot have been omitted from the squad.
