LANCE Franklin and Kieren Jack have been cleared to fly back to Sydney after both were taken to hospital during the Swans clash with Greater Western Sydney in Canberra.

Franklin went to hospital by ambulance after being stretchered off StarTrack Oval in the opening minutes of Sunday's NAB Challenge match.

And co-captain Jack was sent for precautionary scans after a hit to the abdomen in the second quarter.

Franklin was knocked out after a sickening head clash with teammate Gary Rohan and barely moved before medical staff arrived.

Both players were attempting to tackle Giant Lachie Whitfield inside the Swans' forward 50 when they looked up and collided head-on.

After the clash with Franklin, Rohan gingerly left the field unassisted, but after spending time in the Swans' rooms, returned to the field during the second quarter, in which he kicked a goal.

Franklin woke up while being tended to and tried to get up, but doctors insisted on using a stretcher.

Play was held up for about four minutes while Franklin was taken from the field.

Television showed a dazed-looking Franklin walking in the Swans' rooms at quarter-time.

Later, he was seen walking unassisted into an ambulance for further assessment at Canberra Hospital.

"As a precaution he has been taken to Canberra Hospital before the team flies back to Sydney this evening. He is not expected to have suffered any serious damage," Swans general manager of football Tom Harley said.

After the match, the Swans confirmed neither player had sustained serious injuries and would fly home with the team.

Jack was injured in a tackle from Giant Devon Smith.
