GEELONG star Steve Johnson has escaped suspension and can instead accept a $1000 fine for his off-the-ball hit on Hawthorn midfielder Sam Mitchell in Monday's clash at the MCG.

In the only incident penalised for the Match Review Panel out of the Easter Monday match, Johnson's hit was classified careless conduct with medium impact to the body.

It means his existing bad record of two matches suspended in the past two seasons doesn't come into play.

If Johnson's hit was deemed to be intentional, he would have faced at least a two-game suspension, based on his record.

The revamped MRP now issues fines for incidents that would have been penalised with a one-match suspension under the old system in 2014.

When a player is issued with his third fine for low-grade incidents, however, they will be handed a one-match suspension.

Meanwhile, all six players who were charged on Monday accepted their penalties.

Richmond star Brett Deledio and Gold Coast utility Matt Shaw will miss a game apiece, also for rough conduct.

Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott, Port Adelaide midfielder Brad Ebert and Fremantle ruckman Zac Clarke have taken $1000 fines for tripping.

Port Adelaide defender Tom Jonas is also $1000 out of pocket for striking. - With AAP
