MELBOURNE has received back-to-back NAB AFL Rising Star nominations, with emerging midfielder Angus Brayshaw the latest player to be given the nod.

The 19-year-old impressed with his 18-possession performance (15 kicks, three handballs), six tackles and a goal during Monday's 25-point loss to Collingwood.

Brayshaw particularly stood out in the second and third quarters and finished with seven inside 50s and four goal assists.

The 187cm youngster helped set up two consecutive goals for livewire forward Jeff Garlett in the second quarter, courtesy of two long kicks from the wing and half-back.

Brayshaw kicked the ball into an open forward 50 on both occasions, when Garlett pounced to register near-identical goals.

The No.3 selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft has demonstrated his hard-nosed approach to the contest in his 10 appearances at the elite level this season.

Brayshaw is ranked No.1 among all the Rising Star contenders in the competition for total tackles with 55 after 10 rounds.

Melbourne captain Nathan Jones said he had tremendous respect for Brayshaw's work ethic at the club.

"He lives about one minute away from my house so we've been close ever since the day he got drafted," Jones told Channel Nine on Monday night.

"He's got all the attributes physically but when a young player comes in with the mentality that he has, it's just terrific to see.

"He's cut from the same cloth as (Melbourne forward) Jesse Hogan."

Brayshaw was recruited from TAC Cup side Sandringham Dragons and is the son of AFL Coaches Association chief executive Mark Brayshaw.

The Rising Star nomination comes after that of Hogan's last week.
