DREW Petrie is in contract talks with North Melbourne and is content to accept the first one-year deal of his career to play on next season, his manager says.

Petrie is due to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season when his existing two-year contract at North expires.

His manager, Shane Casley of Elite Sports Properties, told AFL.com.au on Monday that Petrie, 32, wanted to extend his career at Arden Street into a 16th season next year.

"Drewy is pretty keen to go on and his footy's been pretty solid this year," Casley said.

"We've had an initial meeting with the club and we're in talks at the moment."

Petrie has been North's primary target in attack since 2011 and has led the club's goalkicking in three of the past four seasons (2011, 2012, 2014).

The key forward is again heading the Roos' goalkicking table this season, having kicked 30 goals in 16 games, while he continues to apply elite defensive pressure for someone standing 197cm.

The only game Petrie has missed this season, in round 16 against Essendon, was through suspension.

Petrie will turn 33 before the 2016 season and Casley says he is now content to play on a year-by-year basis.

"If we get to that point (of signing a new deal) I think it will definitely be a one-year (contract), and we're comfortable with that and I think the club is as well," Casley said.

Casley also manages Petrie's teammates Brent Harvey and Majak Daw, who both also come out of contract at the end of the season.

Casley said he remained in on-going talks with North about 401-gamer Harvey.

"We're hopeful over the next two to three weeks that we'll get a little bit closer than what we are now," he said.

Daw has played just one senior game this season, in round 14 against Gold Coast, and 15 in total in six years at Arden Street.

The forward/ruckman has been outstanding for Werribee in the VFL this season, kicking 23 goals in 14 games, but has been unable to displace Petrie, Jarrad Waite and Ben Brown in North's team, while Aaron Black was preferred to him when the Roos last had to replace one of their first-choice tall trio in round 16.

Casley has spoken with North about Daw's future but does not envisage a decision will be made until the end of the season.

"Certainly I've had some talks with North regarding Majak, and obviously from our point of view it's been frustrating for Maj not being able to break into the side," he said.

"He's had a pretty solid year in the VFL so I think where it's at is that we'll sit down at the end of the year and see how he finishes the year and see how he fits in with the Kangaroos going forward.

"He's just got to keep playing good footy."
