FREMANTLE defender Luke McPharlin has been withdrawn from the team to face West Coast on Sunday due to a calf problem.

The veteran was subbed out of last week's win over St Kilda and had been in doubt for most for the week.

He was put through his paces on Friday and looked set to take his place in the team when was named in the final side.

But he was withdrawn on Saturday with Alex Silvagni, who was originally dropped for the Derby, drafted back into the side.

Ruckman Zac Clarke has been added to the emergency list.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has been dealt a blow for its clash against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday with Christian Salem withdrawing due to illness.

Salem was set to play his first match since round seven after a hamstring strain derailed his season.

Rohan Bail comes in to replace to Salem, while Aidan Riley has been added to the emergency list.

The Bulldogs also swung a change to their emergencies with Zaine Cordy replacing Josh Prudden.
