Steven Motlop will remain with Geelong for two more years after signing a new deal

I really love the footy club so it's good to get the deal done this week

GEELONG midfielder Steven Motlop has signed a two-year deal with the Cats, tying him until the club until 2017.

He will be a free agent when he next comes out of contract.

Motlop has had an excellent second part of the season, kicking four goals against Essendon in round 10, having 11 tackles and kicking three goals against the Western Bulldogs (round 16) and nearly winning the match against St Kilda with 33 touches in round 21.

He said was excited to finalise negotiations and agree to the deal.

"I'm very excited, another couple of years with the Cats. I’m very comfortable down here in Geelong, I love the lifestyle and I love the people and I really love the footy club so it's good to get the deal done this week, " Motlop told geelongcats.com.au

Cats football manager Steve Hocking said the club was rapt to retain Motlop.

"We are really excited to have secured Steven for another two years," Hocking said.

"Steven is a talented player and he has the ability to change the outcome of a game."

Motlop joins a brigade of youngsters to re-sign with the club including Darcy Lang, Jed Bews, Jackson Thurlow, Billie Smedts, George Horlin-Smith, Cameron Guthrie and Jordan Murdoch.

Further re-signings are expected shortly with Mark Blicavs ready to sign and Jake Kolodjashnij’s negotiations understood to be progressing.

Motlop has played 88 games and kicked 115 goals since his debut for the Cats in 2010.
