WEST Coast onballer Luke Shuey failed to train on Wednesday.
The Eagles, who still have nine days to prepare for their preliminary final against either the Sydney Swans or North Melbourne, had a light run at Domain Stadium.
However Shuey, who appeared to injure his shoulder in Eagles’ qualifying final win over Hawthorn, is believed to have spent the session on an exercise bike in the club’s gym.
Brownlow medalist Matt Priddis, who missed the opening final with a quad strain, took part in the session.
"(Priddis) ran this morning, and along with (Will) Schofield and (Chris) Masten, they all ran well and they're all on the right track," Simpson told reporters.
Masten and Schofield have both had hamstring issues.
Simpson said defender Jeremy McGovern would manage his ongoing shoulder concern for the rest of the Eagles’ finals campaign.
If Priddis and Masten return, Simpson will face two tough calls on the selection front.
Patrick McGinnity is almost certain to be one of the players to make way.
And vice-captain Scott Selwood, who has struggled to recapture his top form this year while battling an ongoing foot injury, could be the other unlucky player to miss out.
West Coast wants Selwood and McGinnity to play for WAFL affiliate East Perth this Saturday - but faces an uphill battle to win approval.
Under revamped qualification rules this year, Dockers and Eagles players must have appeared in at least five WAFL games to be eligible to play finals on any weekend that their AFL club isn't playing.
The Eagles have sought special permission for McGinnity and Selwood to play.
"That's disappointing if that's the case (that they can't play)," Simpson said.
No stranger to finals as a player at North Melbourne, Simpson said preparations were now very different to his days in blue and white.
Eagles players will have the weekend off and there'll be no group gathering to watch the game, with expectations of the group very clear.
"Our leaders will control what our players will do, but I don't think you'll see us at nightclubs or anything like that,” Simpson said.
Simpson said he was still considering whether he'd fly to Sydney to watch Saturday night's ANZ Stadium semi-final.
