WEST Coast has boosted its ruck stocks by securing the services of Jonathan Giles via a trade with Essendon.

Giles heads west along with Essendon's fourth-round pick in the NAB AFL draft (No.62) in exchange for the Eagles third-round pick (No.57).

The Eagles had just two 200cm-plus ruckmen on their list after trading Callum Sinclair to the Sydney Swans in exchange for Lewis Jetta last week.

Giles, 27, had been out of favour at Essendon after playing just three games late in his only season with the Bombers following 51 matches over the previous three years at Greater Western Sydney.

The Eagles swooped on Giles following the Sinclair-Jetta trade and after putting him through a medical check late last week, they have successfully executed a trade with the Bombers.

Giles appears set to provide back up for the Eagles' first-choice ruckmen Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett.

Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said the club was pleased to secure Giles as the Eagles' third signing of the trade period

"We're delighted to have Jonathan join our club," Vozzo said in statement.

"In terms of our list profile, we have achieved our principal objectives in the trade period, bringing in Jack Redden, Lewis Jetta to add another dimension to our midfield and now Jonathan, who will provide ruck support to Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett.

"Jonathan is a very good ruckman, he's mature and he can push forward. He is an impressive person and we believe he will be a good fit for our football club."
