ST KILDA has secured Nathan Freeman from Collingwood in exchange for a future second round selection, and a switch of picks in the 60s from this season's draft.

The two clubs reached a deal that will see the No.10 selection from the 2013 NAB AFL Draft join the Saints on a three-year deal.

Collingwood received this year's pick No.63 from St Kilda and gave the Saints selection No.68.

The Pies were disappointed to lose the speedster after two seasons ruined by hamstring injuries.

Freeman did not play a senior game with the Pies after injuring his hamstring for the first time in the NAB Challenge contest against Geelong in 2014.

He played just four VFL matches.

Freeman told Collingwood he saw greater opportunities at St Kilda after negotiations on a new contract with the Magpies stalled.

With the addition of Freeman, St Kilda now has four of the top 19 players - all midfielders - from the 2013 NAB AFL Draft (Jack Billings, pick No.3, Luke Dunstan, pick No.18, and Blake Acres, pick No.19).

St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains told the club's website the 20-year-old was a good get for the club.

"We have a young playing list that has generated a lot of excitement," Bains said.

"Nathan is a quality young player with excellent character who we have followed very closely ever since he was coming through the junior system and we are delighted to have him join us."

At the 2013 NAB AFL Draft Combine, Freeman came second in the 20-metre sprint with a time of 2.82 seconds, which ranks in the top 10 times in the history of the combine. He also won the repeat sprint test.

Last month, former Pies skipper Nick Maxwell said Freeman reminded him of Geelong recruit Patrick Dangerfield.

"I reckon he’s a gun," Maxwell said on Melbourne radio station SEN.

"I compared him after his first pre-season to ... Dangerfield.

"He would burst out of packs, was very powerful, good ball-user, really hard at the footy ..."
