CARLTON discard Matthew Watson says he's desperate to prove himself at another club after admitting he wasted his chance with the Blues.

Watson was among the first swathe of players cut by new coach Brendon Bolton as part of a savage list overhaul by the wooden-spooners.

The former first-round draft pick managed only four senior games in 2015 – taking his tally to just 23 in five seasons at Carlton – and concedes he is yet to attract much interest from a new suitor.

But the 23-year-old is determined to get another shot at the elite level, believing he's uncovered the secret to becoming more consistent.

"I'm looking to get more powerful, faster, more agile – I've been doing a lot of work in the off-season with a performance coach just working on those things," Watson told SEN.

"I identified over the last year that this stuff was holding me back. Especially the forwards, you need to be powerful and agile … if I'm able to improve on those then hopefully another club can pick me up."

Watson showed glimpses of his potential at the Blues, highlighted by a four-goal haul in round 23 last year against Essendon, but he failed to translate talent into regular performances.

The strong-marking left-footer never played more games in a season than his eight in 2012 – and Watson conceded he didn't grab his chance at Carlton.

"There were definitely some things I could've done better, but the past is past and you can't do anything about it," he said.

"You've got to move on and learn from those things you haven't done right.

"It's been pretty quiet from AFL clubs at the moment, my manager's doing everything he can to put my name out there and sell myself to another club."

Carlton is wasting no time ushering in its new era, with list chief Stephen Silvagni moving on 11 players since the end of the season.

The Blues brought in four ex-Giants – Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips, Jed Lamb and Liam Sumner – during the NAB AFL Trade Period, and also added former Adelaide midfielder Sam Kerridge.

The Blues hold a strong hand at next month's national draft with four picks inside the top 20 – including pick one.
