GARY Ablett will attempt to complete his first full-intensity training session of the pre-season on Monday.

The Gold Coast captain hasn't trained fully since the middle of the 2015 season.

All eyes will be on the dual Brownlow medalist when the Suns hit the training track at Metricon Stadium on what's forecast to be a 29-degree day.

"Gary has been running really well but we've eased his footy in gradually," Suns coach Rodney Eade told News Corp.

"He did a quarter (of a session), then a third, then a half. He did three-quarters last Thursday and he'll do it all tomorrow (Monday)."

Ablett injured his left knee in round 17 against Adelaide, ending his season.

The former Cat, who re-signed with the Suns in April, managed only six games for the season.

His last pre-season was hampered by a slower than expected recovery from shoulder surgery.

After struggling through the first two games of the 2015 season, he took an indefinite break to get his shoulder right, not returning until round 14.

The Suns only managed four wins and a draw for the season, finishing 16th on the ladder.
