FREMANTLE recruit Harley Bennell remains in the Dockers' rehab group just 11 days out from their first NAB Challenge match against Richmond.

Bennell has been on a restricted program since Christmas as he battles a calf issue. He had a history of calf problems during his time at Gold Coast.

The Dockers have been taking a long-term view with Bennell, with Ross Lyon and football manager Chris Bond stating in recent weeks that the club was building the foundations to ensure that the former Sun is an eight-to-10-season player for them.

The club's rehab group trained at East Fremantle Oval on Monday morning while the main group slogged it out nearby at Fremantle Oval in sweltering 35-plus degree heat.

Ruckman Jon Griffin was also in the rehab group whilst exciting youngster Ed Langdon didn't train.

The Dockers had healthy numbers in the main squad and did full match simulation training for close to half-an-hour as well as full ground ball movement drills.

Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe trained without restriction. Ruckman Zac Clarke was also moving well after overcoming the knee problem that grounded him prior to Christmas.

Hayden Ballantyne spent a little bit of time in the midfield as did Michael Walters. The Dockers appear likely to run high numbers through the midfield this season in a bid to be a more flexible side.

Lyon has already stated that he is keen to use Fyfe as a forward more often this season as well as use skipper David Mundy and Stephen Hill off half-back at times to utilise their kicking skills.
