GREATER Western Sydney defender Tim Mohr is set to play his first game since 2014 after the Giants confirmed he would play against Gold Coast on Saturday.

Mohr has not played since round 18, 2014, when he suffered the first of two successive knee reconstructions.

But the Giants defender is set to replace injured co-captain Phil Davis against the Suns after five games in the NEAFL this season.

Saturday's match will make it 665 days since he last played in the AFL.

"It's been a long time coming and I'm just really excited to be back out there," Mohr told gwsgiants.com.au on Wednesday.

"I've done all the hard work now and it's time to show the coaches that I'm still up to AFL standard.

"My NEAFL form has been pretty good so it gives me a lot of confidence going into the next level.

"I know it's a step up but I'm ready for the challenge."

Mohr, 27, first ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a game when new teammate Steve Johnson polled three Brownlow votes for Geelong in a seven-point win for the Cats.

He ruptured his ACL for a second time in May 2015 during his comeback in the NEAFL. Mohr said the second rehabilitation period was much harder than the first.

"I had Jonny Patton with me with my first one (reconstruction) which helped a lot as we rebounded off each other," Mohr said.

"The last one was a lot tougher. I was out there doing laps of the oval by myself. So it was mentally draining but I always saw the light at the end of the tunnel."

Mohr is set to face in-form Suns forward Tom Lynch as the Giants try to extend their unbeaten run to five games.
