FORMER Carlton player Andrew Carrazzo will retire from umpiring after injuring his calf for the fourth time this year.

Carrazzo, 32, hurt his calf again at the weekend.

"I am super disappointed. It is what it is. Unfortunately there is nothing more I can do," Carazzo said.

"I really enjoyed my time in umpiring. I look forward to some continued involvement down the track helping out developing umpires."

Umpires coach Hayden Kennedy said Carrazzo showed promise as an umpire.

"Andrew has had four calf injuries this year and has been unable to get the continuity he was hoping for to progress his career," umpires coach Hayden Kennedy said.

"Andrew had done extremely well to progress to umpiring in A Grade in the Victorian Amateur League in a very short period of time.

"He handled himself with great professionalism in his transition to umpiring and unfortunately hasn't been able to prepare as he wished."

The one-time Blue played 194 games at the club.
