VFL PROSPECT Luke Ryan will be the only mature-age player at this year's NAB AFL Draft Combine after 80 players were invited to test at the four-day trial in October.

The 20-year-old defender started the season in Coburg's development team but forced his way into the senior side and has caught the eye of AFL recruiters, with each player needing at least five nominations to be awarded a spot at the combine.

Ryan was first eligible for the national draft two years ago but has taken a little longer to develop his game into the damaging and running defender he has become this season in the VFL.

Nearly half of the 80 players invited to test at the combine between October 6-9 will come via Victoria, with under-18 champions Vic Metro providing 19 players, including Collingwood father-son prospects Josh Daicos and Callum Brown.

Hamish Brayshaw, the younger brother of Melbourne's Angus, has also been selected after showing strong form in recent weeks for the Sandringham Dragons.

There were 20 players invited from the Allies' squad (made up of players from the division two teams), but no representatives from Tasmania.

Will Brodie, Hugh McCluggage and Ben Ainsworth – all contenders for the No.1 pick – lead Vic Country's contingent of combine attendees.

Jy Simpkin and Alex Witherden both missed the championships with broken legs and are likely to sit out the rest of the season, but have been invited to test at the combine.

More than 100 players will also be tested at state screenings in October.
