Indicative draft order: What picks will your club take to the draft

GEELONG admits it will be "difficult" to broker trade deals for both Brett Deledio and Zach Tuohy, given the club's tight salary cap space.

Deledio and Tuohy both nominated Geelong as their preferred destination on the opening day of the NAB AFL Trade period.

But Cats list manager Stephen Wells said the club would have to get creative to sort out a suitable trade for Deledio and Tuohy with club finances an issue.

"Trying to find a way to fit in all that, to fit in those boys, won't be easy," Wells told SEN.

"We've got meetings this morning to go through how we might be able to get all this done.

"If we gave up one of our ripper players, that we were always going to keep, that would get it done. But we're not going to do that and we don't want to do that."

Geelong does not have a first-round draft pick, having traded it away to secure Lachie Henderson in last year's trade period, making it even more difficult to get the deals done.

"From our salary cap point of view it will be very, very difficult," Wells said.

"We've got a lot of work to sort that out."

There had been murmurings that Richmond had interest in Geelong livewire Steven Motlop, but Tigers list manager Dan Richardson rejected that on Monday, saying the club didn't want the 25-year-old.

Wells conceded League wide interest in Motlop had been well below Geelong's expectations.

"Steven is a contracted player and if clubs bring his name up we'll be happy to talk to them but at this stage there hasn't been a lot of conversation with other clubs," Wells said.

One way the Cats may be able to secure draft picks is by gaining some back in trade deals involving Nathan Vardy and Shane Kersten.

Vardy has attracted significant interest, in particular from Port Adelaide, while Fremantle confirmed Kersten was on its radar.

Wells said it was increasingly likely both players would not be at the Cattery next season.

"At this stage there's a really good chance they won't be," Wells said.

Veteran Jimmy Bartel is still undecided about whether to play on, despite triggering a clause in his contract to give himself the option of running out in the hoops in 2017.

Wells was tightlipped on Bartel's plans but did say the club expected to hear from him and his management before the end of the month.
