Key dates for the NAB AFL Trade Period

HAWTHORN has lost one Mitchell but gained another on the same day, with Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell traded to the Hawks as Sam Mitchell heads to West Coast.

The Swans receive pick 14 and the on-traded pick 52, which Hawthorn initially received from West Coast in the Sam Mitchell deal.

The Hawks also receive pick 57 as part of the trade for the ex-Swans ball magnet.

Tom Mitchell officially becoming a Hawk softens some of the blow of his namesake joining the Eagles.

The former Swan will add some grunt to Hawthorn's engine room after averaging 28 touches – 12 contested – and six tackles per game this season.

Mitchell played 65 games and booted 38 goals for the Swans after being taken as a father-son selection in the 2011 draft, at pick 21 overall from Claremont.

He follows free agent Ty Vickery in joining the Hawks this off-season, but Hawthorn's business is far from finished.

Amid ongoing speculation about vice-captain Jordan Lewis' future after another stunning revelation that he sought a trade to Melbourne, the Hawks' attention is firmly focused on securing wantaway Gold Coast star Jaeger O'Meara.

AFL.com.au has reported that speedy wingman Billy Hartung has attracted interest from the Brisbane Lions and could be a circuit-breaker in stalled negotiations between the Suns and Hawks.
