VERSATILE Sydney forward Dean Towers has recommitted to the club for another two years.

Towers came out of contract at the end of the season and there was speculation he might try to find a new home in the NAB AFL Trade Period, after failing to cement a spot in John Longmire's team in 2016.

But the 26-year-old resisted the temptation to look elsewhere, and will now be a Swan until at least the end of 2018.

The talented athlete played 13 games this year – a career best – and has played 30 in total in his four years at the Swans, but despite making nine appearances in a row in the second half of this year, he was dropped for round 23 and failed to play a final.

Swans head of football Tom Harley said Towers now has time to establish himself in the Swans' best 22.

"We are very pleased that Dean has recommitted to the Swans," Harley said.

"Dean showed significant improvement in 2016 highlighted by some very strong performances in the second half of the year.

"He adds a point of difference to our team and has the ability to impact the game in a number of ways."

Towers can expect to cement a permanent spot in the Swans' forward line next year following the departure of Grand Final forward Xavier Richards.

Swans stars Kieren Jack, Nick Smith and Luke Parker also re-signed this year, along with young guns George Hewett, Aliir Aliir and Tom Papley among others.
