AFTER focusing on reinforcing its spine in last year's NAB AFL Draft, Carlton used most of its picks this year to bolster its midfield.

The Blues used four of their five picks at last year's draft on key-position players, taking defender Jacob Weitering and forwards Harry McKay, Ed Curnow and Jack Silvagni.

But this year the Blues used their first two picks, No.6 and No.27, on West Australian midfielders Sam Petrevski-Seton and Zac Fisher, then added Victorian on-ballers Cameron Polson, at No.59, and Tom Williamson, No.61.

Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni said the Blues had been focused on adding to their midfield depth this year and were pleased with Friday night's four recruits.

As he has done regularly in his first two trade periods at Carlton, Silvagni again landed a player tied to his former club Greater Western Sydney, taking academy key defender Harrison Macreadie at No.47.

Silvagni was also pleased the famous Kerr name would return to Carlton after it took Pat, the grandson of 1950s great Laurie, with its last pick, No.65

Selection No.6 – Sam Petrevski-Seton
Stephen Silvagni says: "He's a highly skilful player but also has a desire to compete and tackle. He's got a lot of talent, is a good decision-maker and a good character. He wanted to come to Melbourne."

Selection No.27 – Zac Fisher
Stephen Silvagni says: "A small on-baller but he's very clever and can really play. He has good skills, is a really good decision-maker and has quick hands. He won the WA best player award at the national championships and can play midfield and half-forward."

Selection No.47 – Harrison Macreadie
Stephen Silvagni says: "A 196cm centre half-back, who is a good runner and a good kick. He's an athlete and, like a lot of players, he's got some work to do, but he's got some talent."

Selection No.59 – Cameron Polson
Stephen Silvagni says: "Cam only played a couple of games early and dislocated his shoulder, but we think he's going to be a very good player. He's a 184cm midfielder, who captained Haileybury College and played at the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup. He did a sub-three-second 20m sprint at the Combine."

Selection No.61 – Tom Williamson
Stephen Silvagni says: "He's very young and is a very good kick, has really good endurance and can play outside. I think if he was born a couple of weeks later he would have qualified for next year's draft and might have even gone through the midfield a bit."

Selection No.65 – Pat Kerr
Stephen Silvagni says: "A tall forward, who is a really strong mark and a nice kick. He is the grandson to Laurie and Vivian Kerr, so it is a great night for the Kerr family, I'm really happy for them."
