THERE will be no pre-season draft this year after every club advised the AFL they would not take part.
The League confirmed no club would be taking a selection into the pre-season draft on Monday afternoon, which has lost relevance since the introduction of the free agency system.
But there will be up to 55 prospects taken by clubs at the NAB AFL Rookie Draft after the AFL released its draft order.
The list lodgment deadline was not until noon on Monday, hence the delay on the full rookie draft order from the AFL.
Essendon will take pick No.1 into the rookie selection meeting from 4pm AEDT, which is conducted via teleconference.
Ben Jarman (Adelaide) and Sam Simpson (Geelong) have already been listed as father-son rookies to their respective clubs, while another four prospects have been named as academy and Queensland/NSW zone selections.

Max Spencer (Gold Coast) and Zach Sproule (GWS) will join their clubs as academy pre-selections, while NEAFL player Blake Grewar has been rookie listed by the Brisbane Lions under Queensland list rules and the same rules have seen Sam Fisher join Sydney.

The lack of a pre-season draft will again raise questions over its future.
But the AFL sees it as having a place as an equalisation tool for clubs at the bottom of the ladder, and as a trading mechanism if deals cannot get done for players during the exchange period.
