THE WESTERN Bulldogs have signed Category B rookie Tristan Tweedie after he was overlooked by Hawthorn.

The Hawks had initial signing rights to the 18-year-old as he was a member of their Next Generation Academy.

But after Hawthorn decided against signing the goalkicker, the Dogs pounced and added him to their list.

"I've [already] been welcomed with open arms," Tweedle told westernbulldogs.com.au on Tuesday.

"It's definitely an exciting opportunity to be a part of a program like this and I look forward to what the future holds."

Tweedie only managed two games this year before injury ruined his season, but did impress with his versatility and eye for goals.

Standing at 190cm, Tweedie booted six goals for Eastern Rangers in round one of the TAC Cup.
