THE AFL has wasted no time in setting a date for this year's NAB AFL Draft, locking in Friday, November 24, in Sydney for the event.

Unlike recent years where the AFL has needed more time to confirm details for the annual function, its standing agreement with Sydney to stage the draft in 2017 has allowed it to book the date.

Last year's draft took place at the Hordern Pavilion located near the SCG, but this year's event is expected to take place at the brand new Sydney International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour.

The draft took place in a Friday night timeslot last year, having previously been held on Thursday and Tuesday nights, and before that was a Saturday morning function held mainly in Melbourne.

The 2015 event was staged in Adelaide, having spent the previous three years on the Gold Coast.
