FORGOTTEN Collingwood defender Tom Langdon looks set to resume in the VFL against Werribee at Wangaratta on Saturday after a year on the sidelines with ankle and knee problems.

The 22-year-old was close to a permanent fixture in his first two seasons after being selection No.65 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, playing 41 of a possible 44 games.

However, he has played just five games since, injuring his ankle against West Coast in round six last season before knee issues emerged to delay his return until now.

Langdon has been training well in recent weeks and has earmarked this round for his return, although he will still have to complete sessions this week.

Meanwhile Matt Scharenberg is edging closer to senior selection after another good performance in the VFL on Sunday against the Northern Blues.

He has now played seven games since returning from his second knee reconstruction and improved each week.

Selection No.6 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft is a good reader of the play and uses the ball well, but has been hard hit with injury since his arrival at Collingwood playing just four senior games in that time.

Daniel Wells and Henry Schade are also likely to return after being managed in round seven, missing the clash against Carlton, while James Aish is also likely to come under consideration.

Travis Varcoe remains touch and go for this week after he injured his hamstring against Geelong in round six.

The Magpies sit 15th on the ladder after seven rounds, having won just two games, and face Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Oval in the twilight game on Saturday.
