ADELAIDE superstar Eddie Betts has a simple instruction for his teammates if they see the forward in the pocket he has made his own this weekend: "Kick me the bloody ball".

Betts has kicked Coates Hire Goal of the Year from the same Adelaide Oval pocket in the past two seasons during Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round, wearing the club's special indigenous guernsey each year.

Asked if he was aiming for three-peat in 2017, the small forward turned the question back onto Adelaide's media ahead of Saturday night's Indigenous Round clash against Fremantle.

"I'll ask you a question: If I'm in that pocket this week and you've got the ball, what would you do?" Betts asked.

"Kick me the ball. That's what I'm going to tell the boys. If I'm in that pocket, kick me the bloody ball. Only in that pocket though."

Betts has already kicked two goal of the year contenders this season, in round four against Essendon and again last Saturday night against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The 30-year-old said he was taking pleasure in his defensive pressure and didn't always enjoy kicking the goals himself, setting up goals for two debutants against the Lions.

"I kicked one to 'Hughey' (Greenwood) for his first goal, and I had young Jordan Gallucci running towards me with his eyes wide open, he wanted that ball, so I had to give it to him for his first goal," Betts said.

"The goals I kick, I don't think personally that they're that good.

"But the people around me say, 'How do you do that?' … I just think it's not that good to be honest. I do enjoy passing it off."

Betts said the Crows had become 'the hunted' in their past three matches, losing to North Melbourne and Melbourne before bouncing back against the Lions in round nine.

He said winning the contested ball early would be key against Fremantle on Saturday night.

"Everything we're doing before the game is switched on, and when we get out there it's just that mindset and the first five minutes," Betts said.

"Being 6-0 at the start of the season, teams come out and they want to hunt you. It started from North Melbourne and Melbourne, they hunted us and we weren't ready in that first quarter.

"We looked at the last couple of weeks and we've been reacting instead of acting … hopefully we can come out this week and get a good start against Fremantle."
