PATRICK Dangerfield remains the Brownlow Medal favourite, but according to Geelong fans captain Joel Selwood has emphatically out-performed his 'Dangerwood' midfield partner this year.

Giving their mid-season verdict on the Cats in an AFL.com.au survey, 69 per cent of fans thought Selwood was Geelong's best performer so far.

While the flag is the ultimate goal for most Cat fans, many highlighted the need for consistent performances in a hotly contested season.

Luring Gary Ablett back to the Cattery would, in one fan's view, be the cherry on a premiership cake.

Here are the full survey results, plus a selection of fans' views on what Geelong needs to succeed in 2017.

It'll be a good year for the Cats if ...

We keep up the consistency for the rest of the year. Do that, and we are real contenders.
- Kyle Pitcher, Palmerston NT

Steven Motlop brings consistency to his game.
- Amelia Luscombe, Carlton Vic

Harry Taylor kicks 30+ goals.
- Josiah Aldred, Launceston Tas

We make the preliminary final and develop Nakia Cockatoo and Brandan Parfitt.
- Dylan Cockfield, Yackandandah Vic

We upset GWS in the Grand Final as Steve Johnson retires.
- Richard Naco, Gymea NSW

We win the Grand Final and get Gary Ablett for a late draft pick.
- Joseph Gitani, Middle Park Vic
