West Coast has secured Port Adelaide midfielder Brendon Ah Chee on a one-year contract after the Power agreed on a trade for the 23-year-old.

The Eagles will hand over their third-round selection in next year's draft while also receiving Hawthorn's 2018 fourth-round pick that the Power received via the Jarman Impey deal .

The Eagles originally offered their fourth round pick in this year's draft, pick No.68 overall, while the Power were holding firm at a third round selection.

Ah Chee was searching for more opportunities to play senior football after managing just five games last season for the Power.

He asked for a one-year contract with the Eagles on similar terms to his current deal with the Power.

"Brendon's only wish all along was to go to a club where he would have the opportunity to showcase his talent and become a regular player in the best 22 each week," Ah Chee's manager Anthony Van Der Wielen told AFL.com.au.

"That way, if he backs himself to play well and becomes a regular player, he should be able to set down a nice, long-term deal for himself instead of playing year to year as he has for the past six seasons."

It was going to be tougher to crack into the Power's best 22 following the addition of former Brisbane Lions captain Tom Rockliff and Geelong speedster Steven Motlop.

The Power were prepared to offer Ah Chee a new contract, but he told the club he was going to decline and enter the draft if a trade couldn't be agreed upon.

Ah Chee can win the ball on the inside while also pushing forward and making an impact on the scoreboard.

He should be able to find room in the Eagles' midfield following the retirements of Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell.

Ah Chee played 27 games across six seasons for the Power after being selected with the 45th pick in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

The Power are also hoping to get deals done for forward Aaron Young and ruckman Matthew Lobbe.

Young has been linked with Gold Coast, while Lobbe – who has two more years to run on his contract – spoke to the Brisbane Lions, but they have since ruled themselves out of securing his services.

Young has said he is prepared to stay at the Power if a deal with the Suns can't be reached.
