AFL 2017 Round 10 - West Coast v GWS Giants

Sam Reid has been delisted by the Giants

FORWARD Sam Reid has been cut from the Greater Western Sydney list for a second time, but the club says it wants to re-rookie him.

Reid's football journey has been somewhat unusual.

Having played 10 games in four years at the Western Bulldogs, he joined the Giants for their 2012 debut and played 19 games over two seasons.

When he was delisted the first time, saying his "body wasn't up to the rigours of another season playing in the AFL", he stayed on at the Giants as a development coach and had a playing leadership role with the club's NEAFL team.

He re-joined the AFL program two years ago as a rookie – and was elevated to the senior list to play 19 games.

But the club conceded on Tuesday it had no choice but to delist the 27-year-old.

"With recent changes made to the list management rules, clubs have a bit more flexibility around moving players between the primary and rookie list," Giants football boss Wayne Campbell said.

"The club, Sam and his management are all on the same page regarding Sam’s playing future at the Giants and we will re-draft Sam onto our rookie list at the Rookie Draft."

He has played 43 senior games in total since his 2008 AFL debut.
