HAWTHORN has decided not to nominate Devlin Brereton or James Langford as possible father-sons ahead of next month's NAB AFL Draft, but the Hawks have put in the paperwork to list Changkuoth Jiath as a category B rookie.

Brereton, the son of champion Hawk Dermott, and Langford, the son of Chris and brother of current Hawk Will, were overlooked despite the club having first call on the pair.

But Jiath, of African descent, has been nominated by the club as a Next Generation Academy player. It means he will fall under the same bidding rules as father-son and northern academy players through the draft.

Jiath is a small and wiry forward who played with Xavier College at school level and with the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup.

"We've been working closely with 'CJ' throughout the year, and have been happy with his development," said Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright.

"He's very versatile. He can kick goals while playing across half-forward, break the lines on the wing and occasionally run through the midfield.

"Over the coming weeks we will assess our draft strategy and determine where he sits in the draft order, before we make our final decision during either the national or rookie draft."
