ESSENDON has re-signed small forward Josh Green for next season.

The former Brisbane Lions goalkicker played 17 games for the Bombers and became a regular member of their senior line-up before he broke his foot in round 22.

That injury required surgery but the Bombers have stuck with the 25-year-old for 2018.

Essendon coach John Worsfold said Green, who has played 98 games in his career, would continue to have an important role to play at the club with his crumbing and goalkicking ability.

"Josh worked really well in our forward line this year. He added a dimension that we were looking for and he’s a very clever player," Worsfold said.

"We believe as he continues to build his fitness base, he will have an even bigger impact for us.

"Coming off a pretty serious injury and being really limited the previous year, we were rapt with the way he attacked his rehab program and got himself fit for the season."

Green has been part of a squad of Essendon players taking part in a training camp in America in recent weeks.
