THE BRISBANE Lions are a step closer to securing funding for a new training and administration base after the Liberal National Party of Queensland pledged its support on Wednesday.

The opposition has committed $15 million to the Lions' proposed project in Springfield if it wins Saturday's state election.

With Ipswich City Council, Springfield Land Corporation and AFL support, the Lions have secured $40 million of the $70 million it requires.

The federal government will fund the remainder of the project if the Queensland government kicks in.

Not only would 'The Reserve' house a new training and administration base, but also a 10,000-plus seat boutique stadium for AFLW matches.

"It's an opportunity for our women's team to have state-of-the-art facilities," Lions CEO Greg Swann said.

It is believed the incumbent Labor government supports the project, but is yet to announce so publicly.

Swann said with planning already underway, a quick resolution would ensure the facility is fully operational ahead of the 2020 AFLW season, when the competition expands to 14 teams.
