IT'S AN early Christmas present for West Coast fans, with All Australian defender Elliot Yeo committing to the club for a further five years.

Yeo, whose career-best season was capped off in October with the John Worsfold Medal as the club's best and fairest, will be in Eagles colours until at least 2023 after signing a contract extension.

He was due to come out of contract at the end of 2018.

The 24-year-old has played 80 games for West Coast since returning home from the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2013, where he managed 27 games in two years.

"It’s a great feeling to have the contract settled at this early stage so I can concentrate on the pre-season and preparing for 2018," Yeo told westcoasteagles.com.au.

"When I came to the club four years ago it was about being around my family and that has definitely helped me both on- and off-field.

"I have really enjoyed being home and the club has been great for me."

Yeo, who has also spent time in the middle, found his niche across half-back this year and developed a reputation as a damaging intercept mark and rebounder.

He was rewarded with his first All Australian blazer in September, after averaging 23 touches and seven marks a match, up from 17 and four in 2016.

West Coast's general manager of football Craig Vozzo said Yeo was an important part of the club's future.

"To have him committed to the club until at least the end of the 2023 season is a terrific outcome for both Elliot and the club," he said.

"Although Elliot won the John Worsfold Medal in 2017, we believe he has his best football ahead of him and we are all excited about that.

"He also has an important role to play with the leadership of our young players and he is continuing to grow in that respect as well."
