GREATER Western Sydney's boom recruit Alicia Eva has been named vice-captain for her first AFLW season at the club.

Eva, who filled the same role at Collingwood in last year's inaugural AFLW season, will provide leadership support for Amanda Farrugia, who will again lead the Giants.

The players also voted to elevate Victorian recruit Tanya Hetherington and retain reigning club champion Jessica Dal Pos and former vice-captain Emma Swanson in the five-person leadership group.

Eva has wasted no time in making a positive impression at her new club and is optimistic about helping to lift the Giants, who finished on the bottom of the AFLW ladder last season.

"I'm pretty pumped to be honest," Eva told the club's website.

"I think this is a really young and exciting team and to work alongside 'Fridge' (Farrugia) is going to be super.

"The way in which she leads the team, when she talks everyone just listens, and she's a great representation of this club and I can't wait to get started in the season."

Farrugia is excited about gleaning some leadership knowledge from Eva.

"Alicia's fantastic, she's a very well-revered figure in the football industry and there's a reason for that," Farrugia said.

"She's got a wonderful football brain and I think above all else she's a fantastic person, so to have her alongside me leading the girls through the season is going to be fantastic and she's definitely going to be someone I rely on quite regularly."

The Giants will have their first practice match on Saturday against the Brisbane Lions at Tom Wills Oval in Sydney, ahead of their season opener against Melbourne at Casey Fields on Saturday February 3.
